SafeHouse Ministries “Then the righteous will answer him,
‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and
feed you, or thirsty and give you
something to drink? When did we see
you a stranger and invite you in, or
needing clothes and clothe you? When did
we see you sick, or in prison and go to
visit you?" The King will reply,"I tell you
the truth, whatever you did for one of the
least of these brothers of mine,
you did for me."

Miranda McLemore

Miranda joined the team in June as our Case Manager for the Homeless.  She hit the ground running.  She has already found permanent housing for several hard to place folks.  We are excited about this new project we have started.  Miranda meets with those about ready to move out and helps make the transition smooth.  She maintains contact with them after they get housed to encourage and support them until they become sustainable.  One of our clients came to us two years ago from the riverwalk.  Due to health issues we couldn’t find suitable housing for her.  Miranda worked with Thea and they put a plan together and today Christine is permanently housed and getting the care she needs.  What a mighty God we serve!!!!!  Her efforts mean homeless men and women will find housing and have a better chance of staying housed.  We are blessed to have her onboard.  Welcome to the TEAM Miranda!!!!!!

Lori is the Director of our new outpatient substance abuse program, Tomorrow’s Hope.  Felecia Edwards and Josh Pezold round out the TEAM.  I can’t say enough about how loving and committed this team is.  The men and women that have enrolled are excited and believe they can get free from their bondage.  Our clients tell me that the counselors make them feel loved and share the hope of the Lord in addition to state of the art addiction recovery science.  The clients tell me that hearing Lori, Felecia and Josh share their stories it gives them the strength to know that they can do it too.  I praise God for Lori, Felecia and Josh.

What an exciting couple of months at Grace House.  The Lord provided 10 raised beds, the 9 truckloads of free dirt to fill the beds, we planted almost 200 vegetable plants and then we installed a drip irrigation system.  Throughout the process, Jeff was on top of things.  He assembled and motivated the men to move dirt, plant plants and tend the garden.  Very proud of Jeff’s leadership on this project.

Chris Aguilar

Chris Aguilar

Chris Aguilar

What can I say about Chris Aguilar.  If it needs to be done, he makes sure it gets done.  Even if that means he comes in by himself on his own time.  We are upgrading the upstairs at Rose Hill Methodist Church to provide case management for homeless and substance abusers, computer training classroom and an outpatient substance abuse program.  Chris has led the effort to get it done.  Not just on-time, but ahead of schedule.  Meanwhile, he continues to lead his team to provide first class ministry at Grace House, SafeHouse and Trinity House to hundreds of people in need.

God makes some very special people and Chris Aguilar is one of His best works.  He loves the Lord and those he works with.  He loves his family and shares his love with any and all he can.

THANKS CHRIS!!!!!!  We love you!

Thea Kimbrough

Thea Kimbrough

Thea Kimbrough

Althea "Thea" Kimbrough is our Employee of the Month.

Thea has been with us over 5 years.  We kiddingly say that she came with the building.  She has been the “mother” to over 500 women and over 100 children. Through her efforts, about half of all the women she has worked with have saved enough money to move into permanent housing.  Recently, several women have returned to say thanks to Thea and last week she went to a graduation ceremony for one of “her ladies”.

75% of all the women staying at Trinity House have incomes and are saving money.  Thanks Thea for loving and encouraging the women God continues to bring your way.

Charles Jeffries

Charles Jeffries

Charles Jeffries

Mr. Charles Jefferies is our featured employee of the month.  It is my privilege to introduce him to you as the New SafeHouse Manager. Charles has been working for the last year as the “Connection Coordinator” at the SafeHouse. He has demonstrated professionalism, competency, integrity, and a willingness to help whenever and however needed. Charles will continue to work with the clients to meet their needs as he takes on these additional responsibilities. Charles possesses all the qualities of a good leader, and it is awesome that he has agreed to be part of our management team.

Kevin Wiltshire

Kevin Wiltshire

Kevin Wiltshire

Kevin Wiltshire could arguably by the humblest person working in the ministry, (definitely the quietest). He is an honorably discharged Navy Veteran who began volunteering for us in the fall of 2015. Kevin was willing (and still is) to do anything asked of him. With a smile on his face and pep in his step, he takes on any task large or small. Kevin was willing to come in early to help with breakfast. This is one of the more difficult tasks to accommodate. No problem for Mr. Wiltshire! It did not take long, by the spring of 2016, Kevin was an official employee of the ministry. Keven has never complained about scheduling, and has never been late or missed a day of work. We are blessed to have Kevin on our team and thank God for him.

Robert Redman

Robert Redman

Robert Redman

Robert Redman is our Employee of the Month.  Shortly after we moved to our current location, Highland community Church began bringing lunch weekly to the SafeHouse.  Robert was a member of that team.  Not long after his first visit, he began volunteering with us on a weekly basis.  Soon, he was almost a daily fixture.  Whenever we needed anything done, he would be the first to step up.  When he learned that we open the SafeHouse as a warming station during emergency weather conditions, Robert volunteered to stay the night and help.  In January of this year he became a staff member, primarily working in the kitchen.  Over the last year, he has proved himself to be dependable and responsible.  Robert has a good rapport with the clients and knows most of them on a first name basis.  That’s why we have asked him to come out from the kitchen and assist with the responsibilities upstairs during the week and manage the SafeHouse on the weekends.  Robert is a difference maker, and we are proud to have him on the staff.

Charles Jeffries

Charles Jeffries

Mr. Charles Jeffries

Mr. Charles Jeffries is our featured employee of the month. He could be listed in any of our three categories.  Mr. Jeffries first came to us after a few of life’s setbacks.  He presented at the SafeHouse and had a desire to put things back in order.  He was one of our first clients at the Grace House in December of 2014.  By march he was employed and had saved enough to move out in August of 2015.  Not long after that the company went out of business and Mr. Jeffries determined that the Grace House was the best option once again.  Determined to press on, he never skipped a beat.  The whole time demonstrating integrity and a willingness to help whenever and however we needed.  At that time, we learned Charles had schooling and experience in the IT field.  He offered up his expertise at precisely the time we were setting up computers at the Grace House.  In March of this year an opening became available for the Connection Coordinator position and it was a natural fit, a God send.  Charles does his job and any other job he is asked to do with exceptional professionalism and pride.  In addition to helping clients get connected to support services he oversees the monthly client reports, client track, and is “our” IT guy.  Recently, we have upgraded the entire computer operations at the SafeHouse to a single server.  Charles stepped up and provided all the support needed for MD Solutions to complete the task with minimum downtime. Thank you, Charles, for the work you do, the attitude you have and the example you provide to all those we serve.

Chris Aguilar

Chris Aguilar

What an honor to tell you about our Chief Operating Officer, Chris Aguilar.  He's been with the ministry from just about the beginning.  He was the Chairman of the Evangel Temple Jail Ministry Team.  He recruited and organized a team of over 30 men and women who regularly come to the jail to share the love of Jesus with inmates.  He felt God called him to be more active.  So he began to volunteer in the ministry.  His first project was to take the notes and subject matter of our committee on Discipleship and write our new Discipleship Program called the Nehemiah Project.  He wrote this 13 week program that teaches new believers how to grow in their faith.  The program doesn't speak "church" but speaks the Word of God to inmates in a language they understand.  Next he became an Assistant Chaplain in the jail working with men in our program dorms.  It wasn't long after that we found a way to hire Chris.  He has been instrumental to our being able to open the SafeHouse, Trinity House and Grace House.  He manages all the outside of jail efforts of the ministry.  He not only leads, but, more importantly, he loves our clients and our team members.  We couldn't have grown as quickly as we have without Chris and he deserves to be THANKED.  WE LOVE YOU BROTHER!!!

Keith

Keith Smith

Keith Smith

Keith Smith came to us last February.  He stayed at Grace House.  While he was getting his life organized he asked if he could help us as a volunteer.  First, he helped at Grace House while we finishing the final phase of construction and opened the last building.  He then started volunteering at the SafeHouse.  He was anxious to “pay it forward”.  Even after he saved enough money to get his own place and a car, he continued to volunteer.  It didn’t take long to find out that he is a great cook.  The clients noticed quickly as well.  We quickly realized that we wanted him to become part of the SafeHouse team.  Even as an employee he still finds ways to volunteer and give back.  Keith is one of those special people that welcomes you with a genuine smile and makes you feel important.  He’s full of love and serves with gladness.  He brightens everyone’s day and we are blessed to share life and ministry with Keith.

Jeff Mackey

Jeff Mackey

Jeff Mackey

Jeff Mackey came to us as a volunteer over 4 years ago.  He was willing to help and serve anyway he could.  It wasn’t long before his hard work earned him a position on staff.  Not long after that he became our Weekend Manager at the SafeHouse.  He did a wonderful job serving the needs of our clients on weekends and was seen escorting some of the ladies that attend Rose Hill Methodist to church each Sunday.  It was a common site to see a lady with her arm in his as he walked her to the sanctuary.  As Grace House continued to grow it became obvious to us that Jeff was the right man for the job.  Last February he agreed to become the Grace House Manager.  He has walked with us through the completion of the construction and to our full capacity of 48 beds.  He wakes up in the middle of the night to let 2nd shift working men back in from work and shares conversation while they eat their supper.  He makes sure the facility meets the needs of our clients and they have everything they need to be successful.  He is tough when need be and encouraging too.  We are honored to have Jeff as a member of the SafeHouse Ministries TEAM.

Cleo

Cleo Witherspoon

Cleo Witherspoon

Cleo Witherspoon started coming to the SafeHouse just over 4 years ago.  He was looking for a fresh start and used the SafeHouse as his base.  It didn’t take long before he offered to help out.  Soon he was coming everyday and volunteering.  He finished classes and began living a new, disciplined life.  We offered him a position on our team and he’s continued to bless us with his hard work and loving attitude.  Cleo is the Weekend Manager of the SafeHouse and he is Assistant Manager of Grace House.  He knows the hard road our clients are traveling and shares his success and encourages others to grab hold of God’s hand and live victorious lives.  We thank God regularly for Cleo.  To the staff and our clients he is a reliable friend and a trusted advisor.

Thea Kimbrough

Thea Kimbrough

Thea Kimbrough

Althea "Thea" Kimbrough is our Employee of the Month.  We are so proud of Thea.  When we were getting ready to open Trinity House, Thea already lived there.  As we were touring and planning how to best use the building she was always very helpful.  As we got to know her it dawned on us that God had already put the Manager in the Manager's apartment.  We  asked her and she accepted.  She's been the "Mother" to over 470 women and 123 children over the past 4 and half years.  She cries with them when they hurt, she holds them accountable when they get off track and she loves them while they get back on their feet.  She lets them in when they get off work throughout the night and makes sure they get up to charge into a new day.  She makes sure that every woman that comes through the Trinity House has what she needs to succeed.  Women continue to call her and let her know how they are doing and when we run into former clients they always thank God for Thea.  Between her and Zeus the ladies are safe and comfortable.  We thank God everyday for bringing Thea to this ministry.

Kim Jackson

Kim Jackson

Kim Jackson

We ask our staff to nominate the Employee of the Month and they resoundingly voted for Kim Jackson.  Kim has been with us for years.  She joined the SafeHouse team when we were at the original location across from the jail.  She has been a big part of our growth and expansion.  People love her because they know she REALLY loves them.  Recently, we asked Kim to take on the responsibility of exploring options for change with our clients.  She's our Connections Coordinator and she's great.  Our formula has always been to focus on relationship and earn the right to offer suggestions.  Kim greets everyone with a big smile and knows their names.  She makes everyone feel welcome when they are at the SafeHouse.  Once she gets to know someone she can then sit with them and talk about what they want out of life and then she helps them get connected with the resources necessary to improve their situation.  She is a blessing to us and to those God has called us to serve.
