SafeHouse Ministries “Then the righteous will answer him,
‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and
feed you, or thirsty and give you
something to drink? When did we see
you a stranger and invite you in, or
needing clothes and clothe you? When did
we see you sick, or in prison and go to
visit you?" The King will reply,"I tell you
the truth, whatever you did for one of the
least of these brothers of mine,
you did for me."

GED

Led by Anthony Pritchett, we provide G.E.D. instruction and tutoring for inmates seeking to improve their employability. To date, we have already assisted over 130 men and women to earn their high school diploma. The recidivism rate (rate of return) of these men and women is less than half of usual rate because they found hope while incarcerated.

The night before our first test back in February 2013, I visited with one of the inmates the night before the test began. She was crying as she told me that no one, including herself, ever believed she could do anything. She passed and her life has changed for the better. Not only is she more employable, she has learned that she's not incapable or worthless.

We have set aside a male and a female dorm as Education dorms. We offer G.E.D. teaching and tutoring and we offer life skills training as well. There is a library of text books and resources to assist the students in their preparations.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GRADUATES

Literacy Program

A requirement for the G.E.D program is that the participant must be able to read at a fifth grade level or better. Approximately 20% of our inmmates cannot meet that standard. To meet this challenge, we have added a literacy program in the jail.

We are very excited about this Literacy Project, and are recruiting volunteers who will tutor inmates who can't read or write. We are using one-on-one and small group classes to teach inmates how to read or improve their reading skills. The program begins in the jail, via the video visitation system, and will continue at the SafeHouse after the inmates are released.

Please pray about this project. You might want to become one of the volunteers that bring the love of Jesus and the ability to read a person searching for a better life.
